Battery Systems

ICC has been involved in battery system design and development since 1985. With the changes in battery technology, the world has seen a tremendous move towards safer more complex, higher energy density battery technologies, thus, giving devices more run time and power then ever before.
With change comes other issues such as a growing demand for new technology battery chemistries, more portable devices and the need to adequately charge, control and manage those batteries. ICC’s continuous relationships in the battery industry around the world allows an up-to-date knowledge base for all requirements for battery charger, safety and control products.
Custom Battery Packs Designed for Safety and Reliability
- Extensive experience with multi-chemisty, 1-6 series packs including our focus, Li-Ion, Li-Polymer and NiMh
- Experienced battery engineers ensure high level design of circuit board layout including optimizing protection circuitry, thermal sensors, fuel gauging, and data communications with the host device
- High quality mechanical and tooling design for every solution. In-house molding capabilities enable customers to receive a faster, highly engineered design without using outside vendors
- Cell and system verification capabilities provides customers with the ability to omit unexpected complexities with their pack testing by testing not only the custom solution, but the entire system including the power supply, battery solution, and charger with the host device
- Word wide partnerships with leading cell manufactures enables ICC to provide the best cell for each customer's application
Electrical and Mechanical
Each custom design is optimized by carefully reviewing the electrical and mechanical demand for each battery system including:
- Load characterization and power requirements
- Usage patterns
- Operating temperatures
- Environmental conditions and temperatures
- Power loads
In-Pack Charge Control
ICC's patented In-Pack Charge Control places the voltage and current regulation, charge termination, and safety mechanism necessary for properly charging Li-Ion batteries into the battery pack itself. By removing charge circuitry to the host device, In-Pack software, not traditional hardware allows electronics manufacturers to effectively free up valuable component space, thereby reducing overall product cost.
Technical Overview
- ICC In-Pack technology charges in the same manner as conventional chargers with less power
- In-Pack Charge Control works in conjunction with the battery's safety circuitry to ensure proper charging conditions over the life of the battery pack
- In-Pack Charge Control allows electronics designers to reduce PCBA area by eliminating the power section of the charger and its required heat dissipation hardware
- In-Pack Charge Control is deigned to consume very little power during operation, which allows for charging without the host device and greatly simplifies end-equipment use
ICC's 40 years of experience and expertise with charging design and manufacturing ensures highly engineered solutions that meet the demands of every battery pack and application.
